Grenada, alongside eight other Caribbean nations, participated in the recent 9th Round of China-Caribbean Consultations held at the prestigious Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. This meeting highlighted the unwavering commitment of Caribbean countries to strengthen diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China.
Who Joined the Discussions?
The consultation brought together representatives from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname, The Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago. Senior officials and diplomats from both regions engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in various crucial sectors.
Key Areas of Cooperation
During these high-level talks, key focus areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure development, agriculture, healthcare, and green development were addressed. The intention is to establish a foundation for mutually beneficial relationships that will enhance the prosperity of both China and the Caribbean nations. The commitment to improving people-to-people ties was also a significant discussion point, with plans for collaboration between universities and media organizations set to be strengthened.
Reinforcing the One-China Principle
The Caribbean delegation reaffirmed its support for the One-China Principle, aligning with the unchallengeable nature of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758. This is a pivotal stance that emphasizes the diplomatic integrity of discussions and agreements.
Both sides left the consultation with a renewed sense of partnership and a commitment to implement the outcomes of their discussion, paving the way for future collaboration.
