In a remarkable law enforcement achievement, authorities arrested 38 individuals, including eight Bahamian nationals, during a crackdown on a significant human and drug smuggling network off Florida's coast. The investigation commenced on August 29 after intelligence revealed that a group was renting an Airbnb in Fort Pierce, Florida, to facilitate smuggling operations from the Bahamas to the U.S. Law enforcement agencies, including the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, worked in tandem to monitor the coastal activities.
On August 30, surveillance led to the identification of three boats leaving the Bahamas. While two vessels complied with authorities, a third attempted to evade capture, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air Marine Operations effectively disabled it, preventing any escape.
